For Lisa Marsilio, helping patients and their families is her passion and life’s mission. First as a nurse and then as a health care executive running an acute care center, Lisa worked to improve not just patient outcomes, but overall patient wellness. Throughout her career, she has used her understanding of education, infrastructure and technology to impact care. This unique ability to see the big picture and her commitment to doing what is best for patients led Lisa to become Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Caron Treatment Centers, a leading behavioral health care and addiction treatment center with more than 60 years of experience.
As Lisa explains, for too long addiction treatment has been overlooked in health care, and to combat the growing addiction crisis, addiction treatment must integrate with the health care industry. That means changing the way we think about treatment and addiction.
While addiction is a chronic, treatable disease that strikes 1 in 3 families, a lack of understanding by medical professionals about addiction creates an unnecessary barrier to recovery. That is why Lisa is spearheading Caron’s efforts to improve training in addiction medicine and why she is focused on building relationships with health systems throughout the area.
Also under her leadership, Caron recently opened its new Carole and Ray Neag Medical Center. The Medical Center is a state-of-the-art facility that expands Caron’s ability to treat more medically compromised patients, enhances the facilities for Caron’s Older Adult Program and provides additional resources for its Chronic Pain Program and Neurofeedback Suite. The Medical Center reflects the evolution of treating addiction as a chronic disease and marks a new standard of care that can be emulated throughout the addiction treatment sector.
Lisa credits the advice of a mentor for her evolution from nurse to health care executive. That is why she believes so strongly in mentoring others. Lisa’s ongoing commitment to quality care helps her continuously enact meaningful change for patients.
