Explains Vasquez, “I’m a big community guy. I love helping people.” While he is involved with many charitable organizations in Berks, he started the Angel Tree Project in 2019.
Starting to Blossom
With a growing desire to bless foster children in need with the same joy that the holiday season brings him, Vasquez started his journey by contacting a few local organizations that work with foster families. He asked for the names of children in need as well as their Christmas wish lists. With 20 names in hand, he began sharing and promoting his efforts with friends and family and on social media, and within hours all of the children’s names were claimed, and gifts were delivered to him. This generosity lit a fire inside Freddy’s heart and soon he was on the phone asking for more names. Before long, those 20 names blossomed to 150. Vasquez was so touched by the outpouring of volunteers, the gratification of giving and the passion for this project, that he was not about to stop there.
New Year, New Goal
The pandemic of 2020 may have dampened many spirits, but Vasquez is on a quest to uplift those in need in any way he can. Not only will his home be embellished with extra twinkling lights to brighten the holidays, but as part of his efforts for this year’s Angel Tree, he set a goal to fulfill the wish lists of 300 local foster children. Their names and lists will trim the trees that adorn the entryway of FXV Digital Design. Alec Reiner, Grant Administrator at the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, says, “Freddy is one of the most charitable, selfless people. He is a blessing to the community of Reading and Berks County.”
To make this year extra special, every child receiving a gift will also get a t-shirt emblazoned with the phrase, “I’m Happy UR Alive,” showing them there are people out there who truly care and giving a sentimental touch of love to them this Christmas. Vasquez says, “Everybody is worth it, so I want them to know that we are happy they’re alive.”
In collaboration with CONCERN, the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, Bethany Children’s Home and I’m Happy UR Alive, this season is sure to be a giving season like no other.
