Recent passersby to the 600 block of Penn Avenue in West Reading may have had their attention stolen by a restaurant front featuring the animated depiction of a Taco and a Jalapeño wrestler having it out. The fun and amusing logo of Let’s Taco ‘Bout It, our own Best of Berks Best Taco Spot Winner, carries the theme of wrestling and humor throughout its menu and overall atmosphere.
Having just celebrated its one-year anniversary in February, the staff is grateful for the positive support it has received from the community. Owner Ralph Jimenez, an enthusiast of unique and modern restaurants, is always looking for inspiration. He loves how Let’s Taco ‘Bout It “mixes the old with the new,” by serving his time-honored family recipes re-named with phrases from the sports comedy film, Nacho Libre. In collaboration with the film, visitors can enjoy miniature wrestling rings at each table, as well as Mexican movie posters lining the walls.
The menu carries many classic favorites, including chips with homemade salsa, fresh guacamole, tacos and quesadillas, all pair-able with Mexican sodas or Horchata. The difference at Let’s Taco ‘Bout It? A strong commitment to authenticity, and a passion for serving Mexican cuisine in its true form. “It isn’t the Mexican food of chain restaurants,” Marketing Coordinator Tania Colamarino, explains.
And who can resist smiling as they order a crispy quesadilla called “Taste of the Glory,” or a stuffed corn tortilla pegged “Stretchy Pants?” If you are in the mood for a burrito, a.k.a. “Anaconda Squeeze,” don’t forget the perfect “Tag Team,” a traditional side of rice and beans. Fans of Nacho Libre even have the opportunity to order a meal named after their favorite wrestler in the film, all featured on the Luchadors portion of the menu.
While the fun-loving nature of Let’s Taco ‘Bout It amuses guests, it’s the quality of the menu items that ensures their return, contributing significantly to the restaurant’s quick popularity within its first year. Tania expresses, “The food is really simple, and really well done. There’s a consistency, so each time you know what you’re getting.” Fresh plans are still in development, though. Let’s Taco ‘Bout It anticipates adding new permanent menu items in 2017.
The menu won’t be the only thing receiving additions this season. The back of the restaurant will soon feature an open outdoor deck with plenty of seating, so visitors can enjoy eating outside during the warm months of the year. While Let’s Taco ‘Bout It currently holds a BYOB policy, there are plans to replace that with in-house drinks so your favorite margarita can be available on the spot.
Wondering how you’ll get your taco fix outside Berks? Good news! Ralph has visions of opening another location in the greater Philadelphia area, and believes it could happen within the next year. With an eventual goal of having many locations, he loves the idea of continuing the fun that has been started at Let’s Taco ‘Bout It.
