It’s officially hot chocolate season. Perhaps you love yours plain and simple. Maybe you’re looking to try something new. We have 10 suggestions that run the gamut from sweet to spicy.
- Marshmallows. They just go together. Go with minis, or pick a larger flavored mallow, or add some color with pastel varieties. Marshmallows and hot chocolate are always a match.
- Candy Cane. Love a touch of mint? Add crushed candy cane to a piping hot mug and let it melt for a chocolate-mint treat. Another option? Throw in an Andes Chocolate Mint.
- Nuts for Nutella. Are you a fan of the hazelnut spread? Mix in a spoonful and stir up deliciousness.
- Get spirited. For the 21+ set, a boozy cocoa may be just the way to hit the spot after dinner. Try a splash of Kahlua, bourbon, whiskey, amaretto or Irish Cream.
- Some Zest. Orange zest, that is. If you enjoy spice in life, add a pinch of chili powder, cayenne and orange zest enjoy your hot chocolate complete with some zing.
- Go with Joe. Make it mocha-like when you add coffee to your cocoa. Just replace the hot water portion with your favorite brew.
- Sticky Sweet. Drizzle in some caramel or butterscotch and satisfy your sweet tooth.
- Breakfast Delight. Maple isn’t just for pancakes and waffles. Add a touch to your hot chocolate and enjoy it with the first meal of the day.
- A Dash of Spice. Cinnamon is a great pairing option. Just be sure to go easy on the spice. A little dash will do. Or, add a few Red Hots.
- Something salty. Are you salty-sweet fan? Pop a salted pretzel rod into your cocoa and give it a stir. Bonus: You have a drink and something to snack on, too.
