West Reading is hosting its hallmark summer art event, the 19th Annual Art on the Avenue. On Saturday, June 15, from 11am-6pm, this celebrated juried art festival will stretch across four blocks on Penn Avenue and will feature more than 75 artists showcasing watercolor and oil painting, jewelry, pottery, ceramics, photography, sculpture and mixed media.
Many local shops and restaurants showcase special events and sales for the day. Food vendors, live entertainment and hands-on crafts and activities for all ages make it the perfect venue for families as well as the serious art collector.
Two stages will feature live music and performances by local theater groups including After Shock Dance Studio. Festival goers will spot performers all around the event. Look for Rolling Abstract Arts & Entertainment Co., a unique and vibrant group of artists. Face painting and many other kid-friendly activities will be featured throughout the day.
“Paint The Avenue” is a chance for everyone to be an artist. In the large intersection of 7th and & Penn Avenue near the children’s performing stage, budding artists can paint in large mural squares.
Berks Women in Crisis will kick off the festival with their awareness men’s march, “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” Male participants don high heel shoes for the walk to draw attention the serious issue of violence against women.
Look for the entertainment schedule that will be posted in various places on the Avenue on the day of the event. For more information about Art on The Avenue visit wrcrf.org and click on events.
