BERKS SINFONIETTA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA TO PERFORM AMERICAN PREMIERE OF MOZART’S UNFINISHED REQUIEM
October 19 Concert at Christ Episcopal Church
Berks Sinfonietta continues its sixth season with “Mozart’s Requiem” on Saturday, October 19 at Christ Episcopal Church, beginning at 7:30 pm.
Berks Sinfonietta and Vox Philia Chamber Choir join forces to perform Mozart's dramatic Requiem, left unfinished at the composer's death. This performance of the Requiem will be the American premiere of a new completion of the work by living German composer Benjamin Gunnar-Cohrs.
Mozart left his Requiem unfinished, and after his death several of his friends and students worked to complete it and pass it off as completely by Mozart. Much of their work has mistakes that Mozart would never have made, and in the last few decades over a dozen new completions have appeared, trying to complete the work in a more Mozartian style. Cohr's version, completed in 2010 includes a realization of the Amen fugue sketch that was most likely intended to end the Lacrimosa.
Berks Sinfonietta was established in 2014 as a group made up of local musicians, dedicated to exploring the vast repertoire of all periods. One of its distinguishing characteristics is the intergenerational approach, where young professionals, advanced students and gifted amateurs come together to learn from one another and to create performances of unqualified excellence. We also explore various aspects of performance practice, and to build a new audience for classical music through education and outreach.
Join us for an evening of stunning music, performed by Berks County's own chamber orchestra, Berks Sinfonietta.
