Once upon a time, in a faraway mountain cave, a traveler with a special sword discovers a savage chained in a cave. But the young traveler may be a wronged woman, and the savage may be the prince of the kingdom…. Is this life, or is it a dream? Calderón’s great masterpiece, “Life is a Dream” (1636), has been called the Spanish “Hamlet” for its thrilling action, magnificent poetry, and profound questions about power, abuse and enlightenment.
