It started with a dream and a love for the world of interiors. ANITATrinket, located on Richmond Street in Fleetwood, is a family-owned shop offering a range of unique home décor items and gifts along with other beautifully crafted pieces — many of which are made by local artisans. Shop owner Anita Tempesco holds both interior design and graphic design degrees as well as a love for interior aesthetics and furnishings. After obtaining her degrees, Anita was employed by Sherwin Williams for more than 30 years, growing, moving and thriving until her retirement in 2018. That’s when her dream began to unfold.
Anita’s longtime desire was to open a trinket shop when she retired. She and her (late) sister were excited to turn that dream into a reality. Her sister even named the shop ANITATrinket before it came into existence. The moniker has lived on not only for the business, but as a special memory in Anita’s heart for her beloved sister. In keeping the family-owned atmosphere, Anita’s entire family helps: her husband makes industrial lighting fixtures, while her sons assist with fresh, creative ideas and help run and maintain the business. Today, ANITATrinket continues to grow and flourish since it first opened in 2018.

A Unique Experience
Stepping inside is an experience all its own. The building dates back to the 1800s and was originally the Fleetwood Stone Saw Mill. The interior still exposes and shows off original materials such as the stone wall along the staircase, which gives the shop an added unique detail. Anita says, “It’s such a cool building. We tried to keep a lot of the integrity of the wood floors, the stone building and the beam ceiling.”
After taking in those physical details, you’ll then delight in some cozy scents — touches of cinnamon mingled with a hint of a woodsy fragrance creating a warm, rustic feel. Your eyes will wander from the floor up the walls and to the beautiful beam ceiling as you discover all sorts of items, from take-home rag wreath kits to trendy live-edge furniture pieces. Plus, there’s a small clothing boutique and much, much more. The impressive variety of décor items sweeps across the floor and continues upstairs to the second level where more handcrafted items and a special event space are housed. The facets of the building, the shop’s merchandise and the friendly staff will surely keep you coming back again and again to explore new products, seasonal items and fun workshops.

Wonderful Workshops & an Inviting Event Space
The Barrel Loft on the upper level of ANITATrinket, managed in part by Anita’s daughter-in-law, Brianne, can be rented for events such as baby and bridal showers, birthday parties or business meetings. It’s also the stage for the many workshops that the shop offers. Some of those include pasta classes where you’ll make scrumptious homemade pastas like ravioli and pierogies. Other sessions include wreath making, basket weaving, cupcake/cake decorating and more. The Paint A Piece workshop invites you to bring in a piece of furniture from home to paint. No matter your skill level, these workshops will bring out your creative side!
