From 1-4pm on Saturday, April 16, and Sunday, April 17, The Highlands at Wyomissing will host the Berks County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for the organization’s annual “Famous Ladies Tea” event featuring women portraying icons in women’s history, including Sara Josepha Buell Hale (The Godmother of Thanksgiving), Margaret Cochran Corbin (the first American woman to receive a military pension), Mary Ball Washington (mother of George Washington), Marie Curie (first woman to win the Nobel Prize), H. Emily Cady (an American homeopathic physician), Pearl Buck (American writer and novelist) and Betty Ford.
Guests can enjoy tea and dessert while learning each lady’s story as she visits each table. The event is held to benefit the scholarship fund for the Berks County Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, open to seniors of all 19 Berks high schools. Each year, each school selects a senior to represent their school as its Outstanding Good Citizen. Those winners are eligible to compete for a monetary prize by penning a 500-word essay on a topic chosen by the organization pertaining to a historical theme.
