6 Fun Ways to Safely Connect During COVID-19

6 Fun Ways to Safely Connect During COVID-19
1. Hold a Dinner Challenge.

Gather a group of friends living within a reasonable driving distance and enjoy dinner together. Not going out to eat mind you, but by issuing a cooking competition of sorts. Assign each a night of the week to make and deliver a dinner meal to the others via drop-off, then at the end of the week, hold an anonymous vote to see whose meal was ranked tops! You get to enjoy a break from cooking, some good food and lots of fun.

2. Ring in the New Year Virtually.

Use Zoom to gather with friends to ring in 2021 whenever you choose. Go beyond the traditional Zoom call and get dressed up as if you were going out. Prepare some fun games and challenge each other to share positive thoughts looking back on 2020 and to move into 2021 with gratitude. Be sure to have a celebratory drink nearby to cheers the New Year!

3. Build a Book Club.

Have bookworm friends? Many of us have developed a new – or renewed – love of reading during time spent at home. Ask friends to join in and form a virtual book club and come up with a reading list of favorite finds. You each can lead the meeting for your choice of the month, or develop another format that works best for you. This is also a great idea for kids who love to read. They can form groups of their own to meet and share with friends virtually.

4. Letter Writing.

Who doesn’t love to get mail when it isn’t junk or a bill? Take your friendship with a Facebook friend or other pal back to pen and paper by writing letters and sharing them with each other. Writing can be cathartic and you may discover you love it. This can even extend to making sure to send handwritten cards to celebrate occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and certainly well wishes.

5. Create-Your-Own Spirit Week.

This is a fun one for getting the whole family involved. Think back to when you were in school and you got to enjoy Pajama Day, Crazy Hat Day and other festive days designated to show your spirit. There’s no reason you can’t do the same with friends and family on social media. Come up with a theme for a week of days or more, take photos, develop hashtags and share them!

6. Game Night.

Take a note from your gaming kids and form a group of friends to enjoy a videogame night. Many systems allow you to play as a team from separate households. Perhaps your teen or tween can help you navigate new waters here. Prepare some fun, finger-food snacks, and you’re set.
