If you’ve got kids running around the house, you know little ones can often make a game out of anything. Flashlight tag, hide and seek, even babies cooing and “peek-a-booing”…it’s a lot of fun, a lot of times. But if you’re looking to get a little more organized and get the family on the same page, here are a few of our, and our Facebook fans’, favorites.
1 | YIPPEE, YAHTZEE!
That must be what Denise Crissup of Spring Township heard her 8-year-old daughter cheer when she scored “Yahtzee!” three times in one game! You can also look to the game to teach your early learners some addition skills.
2 | SIMPLY UNO
“It’s just a card game, but we love it,” says Karen Mays of Sinking Spring. Round after round, being the winner and shouting out “UNO!” just never seems to get old. The game now comes in many fun variations, including UNO Attack, which features a motorized card launcher to up the stakes.
3 | PICK PARCHEESI.
It might be a little difficult to find, as it’s not exactly mainstream nowadays, but Crystal Reider of Laureldale said her mom is a winner when it comes to playing the game. “She doesn’t really need to count her moves because she played so much as a child,” Reider explains. “My son often doubts her, but she’s always right.”
4 | NOT-SO-SORRY.
At least that was the case in our editor Nikki Murry’s house as a child. “My sister would send my mother’s and my guys back home and happily smirk, saying, "Sorry!” she reveals. At Kate Van Velsor Fanning’s home in Wyomissing, her kids ask to play “I’m Sorry!”
5 | CATCH IT IF YOU CAN.
It’s quick. That’s what BCL Associate Publisher Robyn Jones loves about Catch Phrase. “You can (and do) say almost anything to get your team to guess the phrase you’re getting at. It’s lightning fast, which makes it exciting. I could play for hours!”
