Glam it Up with Green

Green is a great fashion go-to. It is clean, classy, fun and has sustainability well beyond the other colors of the rainbow. So while being “green” for the environment will make your inner self more beautiful, you can give your entire family’s look a breath of fresh air by incorporating these four shades into your everyday ensembles.

A breathtaking jewel tone, emerald green was voted Pantone Color of the Year in 2013, and this trending color is still going strong. It is a classic and can be worn by young and old alike. It is bold but not blinding, and like the vast landscape of Ireland, it can cover you and your wardrobe all year round. Emerald is more serious as a solid, and a men’s polo or women’s classic midi dress are its perfect mate. It also plays well with others (other colors that is), and when combined with brights in a plaid or a brushed stripe, your little ones will show fashion wisdom beyond their years.

    1. Women’s Joseph Ribkoff Side Rouched Dress, $184, The Carriage House
    1. Jewelry Creations by Judith Feick Bracelet, $35, The Store at Bell Tower
    1. Men’s Cactus Polo, $14, VF Outlet, 2nd Floor Blue Building
    1. Boys’ OTB Plaid Short, $15.99, VF Outlet, 2nd Floor Red Building

Go bold with this bright shade of green, adding a bit of adventure to your personal style. Invite a bright piece of clothing to an otherwise conservative closet. Trust us; it is a risk worth taking. An easy pullover sweater is a good choice for women; the lime color will energize the overall look and can be easily accessorized with a coordinating necklace. For the rest of the family, active-inspired apparel is heating up at retail, and bright colors are the highlight that makes its styling unique. With graphics or performance enhancements, the look is sporty and its versatility will let you venture outside the sweat-confining walls of your gym. Whether for fashion or for function, your lime duds will keep you going all day long.

    1. Women’s Curio New York Sweater, $132, The Carriage House
    1. Beaded Necklace, $30, The Carriage House
    1. Boys’ Adidas Performance Top, $16, VF Outlet, 2nd Floor Red Building
    1. Girls’ Star Basics OMG Racerback Tank, $8, VF Outlet, 2nd Floor Red Building

Darker shades of green are associated with money, power and prestige. Olive is a green that has staying power, and if there were primary prints, camouflage would be #1. The military trend never goes away, but rather adapts to its appropriate place in the fashion brigaade. For men and boys, the cargo short in camo is a staple, and an olive utility shirt is a casual piece that will span many seasons. For a more feminine look for girls, add a cute graphic and pop of mint, keeping the look young and fun. And for women, olive green TOMS are the ideal complement to your carefree look – and as an added bonus, you can feel good about your purchase, as TOMS goes the extra mile with every purchase and donates a pair of shoes to someone in need.

    1. Women’s TOMS Classics, $48, The Store at Bell Tower
    1. Girls’ Star Ride Graphic Tee, $9, VF Outlet, 2nd Floor Red Building
    1. Boys’ Black Jack Camp Shirt, $14, VF Outlet, 2nd Floor Red Building
    1. Men’s Lee Dungarees Camo Shorts, $19.99, VF Outlet, 2nd Floor Blue Building

Cool as a cucumber, sweet as a summer sorbet, mint green is an invigorating addition to the fashion color palette. It is calming without sacrificing fun and can bring peace to even the most unruly closets. Though the male wardrobe can be a little mundane, a mint polo or striped v-neck tee can be the touch of trend it needs. Your man (and boys) will show the world that they clean up well and don’t shy away from fashion. For ladies, a sweater or sweater-knit top can have an extended life when done in this softer shade of green. A butterfly necklace or minty fresh cami will keep you looking cool straight through summer.
