Transitioning your Wardrobe for Seasonal Changes

Transitioning your Wardrobe for Seasonal Changes

Fall brings colorful foliage, warm sunshine, and crisp nights. The first few weeks can see some unpredictable weather, with mild summer-ish days but nights chilly enough that you can see your breath. These fluctuating temperatures can pose a challenge when getting dressed. To that end, we aim to show you how to transition your favorite summer pieces into your fall wardrobe and beyond. (Hint: layering and accessories are key!)
Showcasing the looks is our model Elaine Soltis, a Berks-based mixed-media artist with studio space in the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Reading. Note how she uses the same vintage prairie dress from her own closet as a wardrobe base, but switches it up for summer, fall and spring seasons.

Summer Style

In her first look, Elaine is headed out for a summer evening on the town. Pops of color come in the form of her pale pink shawl, a classic clutch, and an essential pair of strappy sandals. With just a touch of the right accessories, a casual dress can be transformed into an elegant evening look.

Tip: Always choose accessories that are in season or that transcend seasons.

Where to wear it: A local art exhibition opening.

Dress: Moda International (Vintage); Piano Shawl: Vintage; Bag: Silver Clutch (Vintage); Shoes: Nina, $79; Jewelry: Silver leaf earrings, $14.99, thesilverseahorse.com

Fall Festival-Going and More

With just a few styling tricks and strategic accessories, Elaine’s same denim dress goes from classic to boho for a chic fall look: perfect for a day of shopping on the Avenue.

Tip: Choose cool weather accessories such as the scarf and soft cardigan pictured, wrapped with a vintage leather belt. Add boots, a floppy hat, and a vintage leather satchel, and you're set for the drop in temperatures.

Where to wear it: An afternoon at a local orchard, market or winery.

Handkerchief-hem Cardigan: Old Navy, $34; Bag: Fossil (Vintage); Boots: Rocket Dog, $39,  Bon-Ton; Hat: Betmar, $46, Hats.com; Pashmina: $16.99, scarves.net; Jewelry: Ralph Lauren (Vintage)

Spring into Spring

Here Elaine's look is re-reimagined with an Easter Day at The Museum in mind. In the spring, pastels are great, as are floral prints as the greenery works its way back into the outdoor scenery.

Tip: Try an alternative to the basic cardigan by using a silk knit chemise with an open weave design and built-in scarf. Three key components of any spring outfit are in-season accessories, like a colorful fabric bag, sparkling jewels and elegant flats.

Where to wear it: A spring concert evening in Centre Park.

Chemise: Janet Egan Design, $125, janetegandesign.com; Bag: $60, Dawnita by Dawnita Smith; Shoes: Antonia Melani, $79.99, dillards.com; Jewelry: Ralph Lauren (Vintage)

More About Our Model

Elaine Soltis of Cumru Township is a contemporary mixed-media artist with studio space in the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts. She is an online art instructor and finds inspiration in nature, especially that of her surroundings growing up in the Nolde Forest area. She most recently showed her body of work at the Louis Long Gallery @ GAPS in June of 2015.

Elaine was the very first Miss Greater Reading. She also has experience in the fashion world, explaining, “Years ago, in my work I was a promotional artist for many French Beaute' companies, including YSL, Dior, Chanel, Givenchy and La Prairie, and learned the color palettes of each season held their own unique beauty. It was my challenge to make them accessible to all.”

Of her experience with our team on this month’s The Look, she says, “I loved it from start to finish...from top to bottom! I couldn't ask for a better team. I felt beautiful, updated and respected for the work I have done.” We’re so glad!
