From pomp-and-circumstance parades to a pumpkin pizza party and fall festivals, ‘tis the season for awesome activities. Here are just a few right here in Berks (and a bit beyond) you might want to check out.
October 3:
- Temple Halloween Parade, 6pm. Welcome in the month with talented high school marching bands, cool costumes and more! Rain date is Oct. 4, 4pm. Parade begins on Sharp Avenue at the Muhlenberg school. For more info, visit co.berks.pa.us/Muni/Muhlenberg
October 5:
- Just across the Berks County line, Grim’s Orchard and Family Farms Fall Festival features a windy corn maze, pumpkin picking, food and fun! Dates are Oct. 5-29, Mon-Th, 10am to 6pm. 9941 Schantz Rd., Breinigsville. Prices vary based on activities chosen.
October 10:
- Topton Halloween Parade, 7pm. Dress up in your costume, bring a candy bucket and get ready for fun! Rain date is Oct. 11. For more info, visit toptonborough.com
- Harvest Craft Fair at Leesport Farmers Market. Looking to give your home a fall look and feel? Find craft goodies galore at this enjoyable event. 312 Gernant's Church Rd., Leesport. leesportmarket.com
October 16:
- Hersheypark in the Dark, 5pm. Hours change daily. Delicious fun and exciting rides for the whole family! Costumes and candy bags are encouraged. Prices vary by age. 100 W. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey. For more info visit hersheypark.com
October 17:
- Cumru Lions Club Great Pumpkin Parade, Mohnton, 7pm. Floats and costumed masqueraders will fill the small borough, making this parade one not to be missed. Make sure to wear your best costumes, bring candy bags to gather the treats thrown your way, and get ready to check out the street vendors serving Philly cheesesteaks and more. October 18:
- “No Tricks, Just Treats!” Scavenger Hunt at 3pm Indulge your sweet tooth; costumes and treat bags are encouraged. Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Rd., Reading.
October 21 & 24:
- Pumpkin and Pizza Party at Angora Fruit Farm, 4:30-6pm. This is a free event, but call 484.509.2667 to pre-register. Space is limited. Pizzas are provided, but please bring your own beverages, pumpkins and carving tools. Carved pumpkins will be used for Angora Fruit Farm’s Halloween Hike and Hayride on Oct. 24, but can be picked up after the event. Angora Fruit Farm, 502 Angora Rd., Reading.
- Boyertown Halloween Parade, 7pm. For some ‘Beary’ fun family time, check out this event! The parade begins at Second and Madison streets. For more info visit boyertownpa.org
October 31:
- 52nd Annual King Frost Parade, 7pm. Welcoming the frost-filled winter days ahead and celebrating Halloween at the same time, the Hamburg Jaycees, organizers of Hamburg’s annual King Frost Parade, welcome up to downtown Hamburg for a night of fantastic floats, marvelous marching bands and more. Wear your costume since it’s on Halloween night! The parade begins at 7pm sharp, but you’ll want to be in town prior to kick-off. Parade travels the downtown district, beginning on North Third Street and finishing on North Fourth Street. For more info look up “King Frost Parade” on Facebook.
