Drink This: Ganly’s Slane Sour

What’s special about this featured drink? The Slane Sour is a simple, classic cocktail, consisting of just two ingredients. The focus of this cocktail centers around Slane Whiskey, a triple-casked whiskey from Boyne Valley in Ireland. The Slane Whiskey is then simply mixed with Ganly’s freshly homemade sour mix and served on the rocks in a Tom Collins glass.

For what occasion would you recommend this cocktail? This cocktail is ideal for any occasion! The beauty of the Slane Sour lies in its simplicity. Anyone can make it, and it appeals to men and women alike. As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, it’s the perfect cocktail to serve at a party, or visit Ganly’s and enjoy one on their biggest day of the year. Slainte!

Slane Sour

Ingredients:

    • 2 oz Slane Whiskey
    • Homemade sour mix

To make the sour mix you need:

    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/2 cup lemon juice
    • 1/2 cup lime juice

Instructions: Make simple syrup by bringing sugar and water to a boil, about 7 minutes. Stir to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat and cool. Strain freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice into a reusable bottle, discarding pulp. Pour in the cooled simple syrup. Shake and use immediately or refrigerate.

Fill Tom Collins glass with ice. Pour in 2 ounces of Slane Whiskey and top with homemade sour mix.

Have a Drink with Dottie Swartz

Dottie Swartz has been a long-time employee at Ganly’s Pub, since 2000. She is a familiar face and is known and loved by many customers. Since her beginnings at Ganly’s, Dottie has learned to make many cocktails. She even has a drink named after her on the Signature Cocktail list, Dottie’s Old Fashioned. Dottie is also well versed in a variety of craft beers, as Ganly’s has 19 beers on draft and more than 100 bottled beers. Says Swartz, “I began my career in the service industry when I was 21 years old and have loved making people happy by serving them amazing food and drinks throughout the years.”

Any special bartending tips? When making this one, be certain to make your own homemade sour mix. Don’t try to take a shortcut by purchasing store-bought mix. The tartness of the freshly squeezed lemons and limes coupled with the homemade simple syrup gives this cocktail its crisp and impeccable taste. Slane Whiskey is a must!
