Sinful Saltines
Ingredients
- 4 ounces saltine crackers
- 1 cup salted butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 12-ounce package (2 cups)
- semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts or other optional toppings*
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400º F.
- Line the sides and bottom of a 10x15-inch rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray the foil with cooking spray. Line sheet with saltine crackers in single layer.
- In a small saucepan, combine butter and sugar and bring to a boil. Once at a boil, continue boiling for 3 minutes; do not stir. Immediately pour over saltines, and spread to cover crackers completely.
- Bake at 400º F for 4 to 6 minutes. It will be bubbly and look golden.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top; allow to rest for 5 minutes until the chips melt. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee and top with chopped nuts.
- Cool completely and cut or break into pieces. Store in a tightly sealed container.
*Optional Toppings could include: Mini M&Ms, chopped Oreos, flavored chocolate chips (mint, butterscotch, peanut butter or white), shredded coconut, dried fruit, crumbled crispy bacon, coarse salt or even crushed candy canes.
A Good Base.
Consider these for an alternative bottom layer: graham crackers, shortbread cookies or a mix of oyster crackers and crushed pretzels.
