When Sorita Averill launched A Running Start in 2004 (now Fleet Feet West Reading), her goal was clear: to create more than a store. She wanted a community hub where her love for running could inspire wellness and inclusivity. Fleet Feet West Reading has since become a trusted resource for runners and walkers of all ages, shapes and abilities.
Starting as the sole employee managing everything from sales to operations, Sorita now leads a thriving team of four full-time managers and 16 part-time staff members. Over the past two decades, her business has grown into an integral part of Berks County’s running community. Fleet Feet West Reading has also earned national recognition, being named a Top 50 Running Store in the US six times by The Running Event.
Through hosting races, offering expert guidance and fostering a welcoming environment, Fleet Feet West Reading continues to champion community wellness. Sorita credits her success to a steadfast commitment to inclusivity and empowering individuals to achieve their fitness goals.
