There are countless Women in Business, be it here in Berks or across other parts of the United States, or even around the world. What’s more rare, but seemingly on a “growth spurt” of sorts, seems to be women entrepreneurs. What makes them want to be their own boss? It’s an individual choice, one unique to each owner. But here’s what motivates some…
Family. Being a mom is job number one for some women, but they also want to feel a sense of purpose outside that role alone. Being a business owner gives them that opportunity, as well as sets a schedule that allows for raising children, too.
Pride. Says one local businesswoman, “I was part of big business. Even though I was a supervisor, I was never really in charge. I had to follow someone else's vision and be rated on following their goals.
I wanted to be in control of my own life, do what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. By starting my own business I can be creative and follow my own dreams. The best part is when a customer raves over my preserves or they say they have to purchase something I created. That kind of performance review is so rewarding.”
