Becoming the cornerstone of the Reading/Berks County community requires reaching the population regardless of religion, race, or economic status with continual programs dedicated to the well-being of the individual’s spirit, mind and body. This is what the Young Men’s Christian Association, or better known as the YMCA has stood for in our community since its formation in 1858. The purpose of the Association was to offer an alternative place to congregate away from the evil ways of life. The YMCA still promotes this alternative today.
