Every woman dreams of having the opposite of her normal hairstyle now and again. Long-haired ladies wonder if they should dare to go short. Curly girls dream of silky straight strands. And those with long locks even envy a cute bob now and again. Good news! You can achieve the look and feel of those do's without a permanent commitment! Read on...
Shorten it up.
(But don’t lop it off!) Tempted to go short but aren’t sure you want to commit just yet? Love those cut bobs you see on the hottest of celebrities, though? Try a pinned-up bob and get the look without chopping off your long, luxurious locks! Here, model Alexis Foreman of Sinking Spring gets a bodacious bob from artist Charlie Foreman. Want to know how they did it? Check out the step-by-step:
1 | PREP YOUR HAIR for a smooth, voluminous look by starting with a volumizing shampoo (like Pureology Pure Volume) and following it up with a volumizing conditioner (Pure Volume Conditioner).
2 | APPLY A VOLUMIZER, like Pureology’s Lustrous Volumizer, to damp hair and comb through for even distribution.
3 | Using a medium-sized boar bristle round BRUSH AND BLOW DRYER, lift the hair away from the scalp while applying hot air. Focus on the scalp area, then work through the ends to smooth and bend them.
4 | COLLECT YOUR HAIR into a low ponytail around your nape. Once your ponytail is secure, flip the bottom part of the length underneath, hiding it close to your head.
5 | TAKE TWO BOBBY PINS FOR EACH SIDE. Slide one pin on a diagonal to secure the hair. Use the other to place over the secure pin to lock the look into place. Do this for both sides.
6 | ONCE YOUR HAIR IS SECURE, gently pull the sides down to the jawline.
7 | FINISH with Pureology Color Stylist Strengthening Control hairspray.

The cost of the service, including a blowout at Hair on the Avenue, is $45.

Get it Straight.
Got curly tendrils the straight-haired girls envy but want to be sleek and shiny like them for a day or two? Bet on a blowout. Here, model Denise Audi of Sinking Spring gets on the straight and narrow courtesy of artist Jacey Orion Adams of Hair On The Avenue. See below for steps on how you can achieve the look yourself:
1 | SHAMPOO AND CONDITION your locks with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner (like Pureology’s Super Smooth).
2 | TOWEL DRY HAIR and apply a heat protection product (try Pureology’s Smoothing Serum).
3 | STARTING AT THE BACK of your head, take a section of approximately 1 inch and clip the rest of your hair out of the way.
4 | BLOW DRY from your scalp to your ends with an air concentrator to help reduce frizzies. Make sure each section is completely dry and polished. (A little bit of dampness will bring back the waves.)
5 | FLAT IRON from the back of your head to the front in sections. Again, do this from the scalp first, down to the midsection of your hair a few times. Then go over the ends last. This will help reduce damage.
6 | FINISH the look with a shine product if needed (like Pureology’s Precious Oil).

Add Some Length.
Have short hair? Want to take it long but keep it short on cost? Try clip-in extensions! While permanent extensions can be a lengthy process (taking six hours or more to put in) and can cost a minimum of $180 for the hair and an additional $100 per hour to weave/glue it in, clip-ins are quick and start at just $90.
Here, Kim Siegel at Hair On The Avenue has matched up Editor Nikki M. Murry’s color (glazed strawberry) to a Jessica Simpson synthetic hair piece which she’s cut to fit and blend with Nikki’s existing hairstyle. The look takes only about an hour to achieve and you get to take the piece with you. Perfect for adding a bit of pizazz for a special occasion!
