- Learn to cook. Being home more has given us the chance to really hone in on our cooking skills. My husband has gotten into it and it’s a full-blown passion for him now. But we’ve also been keeping it healthy. Generally, cooking at home ends up being healthier as portions are smaller and you control the ingredients you use.
- Create your own workout space. Making a home gym does not have to be a huge expense. You don’t need much, just a small area for you to move your body. Resistance bands are inexpensive, but pack a powerful punch for a workout, plus they won’t take up much room. You could always invest in a few free weights for more options.
- Get outside. One positive of the COVID crisis is that so many people are spending more time in nature. Whether it’s a walk around your neighborhood, or a bigger adventure like a hike, getting outdoors has endless benefits. Fresh air does wonders for your mind and body.
- Step challenge. Joining a step challenge is a fun way to compete with others and connect while keeping distant. You could set up your own challenge with a group of friends and family or join a Step Bet and compete to win money.
- Stream workouts. I love livestreaming workouts from gyms that I normally wouldn’t get to go to. You can take a class, but from your own home. Lots of gyms are doing this. My favorites are Surfside Fitness or Barry’s Bootcamp. You can also stream workouts from places like BeachBody or Peloton.
- Find a buddy. Another way to keep motivated is to use the buddy system. Even from afar, you can check in with each other daily to make sure you’re both keeping up with your health and fitness goals. Knowing you have someone who will check in on you will help each of you to stay motivated and feel supported, especially when you want to wander off track.
- Get competitive. Signing up for a challenge will help keep you focused and connected to a community. There are free and paid ones, as well as a variety of challenges based on a ton of different goals. Join and connect with participants and you’ll have support, even if you haven’t left your home.
