What makes a great gift? Well, depending on whom you ask, you could get an entirely different answer. It really depends on the person receiving the gift, we suppose. To help getting you thinking in a way that ensures gifting success, we asked for some advice from our Facebook friends. Here’s what they had to say:
“I keep in mind what the recipient likes, and have a lot of fun finding the perfect gift. A few years ago, my local card shop was selling handmade stained glass pins, so I bought a baseball diamond one for a friend who loves the Phillies, and a wine bottle one for another friend who is a wine connoisseur. I also keep my eye out for cross stitch motifs that can be quickly made and framed; I stitched a pink ribbon for a close friend who did the Susan G. Komen 3-Day last year and framed it. She loved it. I prefer to go unique and handmade (and locally-made, if possible) gifts rather than mass-produced ones." – Beth Hartman Kline
“I think of what they are doing when I notice they are at their happiest. Or what frustrates them the most and what (if anything) I can get them to help relieve that.” – Corynn Brown Cusson
"The perfect gift for someone you care about is time. Spending time together is the best gift of all. A movie, a meal, an event, or just to sit and talk. No gift could ever measure up to time." – Mike Keating
"I always try to get someone something that will make them smile. Sometimes it's goofy, sometimes not." – Paula Wilkinson Rutt
"I love gift giving. I really think about what the recipient likes and always look for something special they will not buy for themselves. The best gift is something that lets them know you care enough to put thought into it. I don't prefer giving gift cards because they are impersonal." – Jess Leinbach
"I absolutely LOVE to buy gift! My ears are always open to what people like/want. It is really rather simple...just listen. I always have a running mental file for future gifts. I love when a gift is opened and the recipient is shocked and says 'How did you know?' ‘How did you remember?’ The family and friends in your life are important. Giving a gift (no matter how small) is the perfect time to let them know that!" – Pam Korejwo Blickle
