Yields 12 cups
There are so many fun ways you can experiment with this basic recipe: Use limes instead of lemons. Substitute a cup or two of water (in step 3) with flavored sparkling water, or add a splash of triple sec or ginger liquor.
For a hint of fresh herbs, add a handful to the simple syrup when it begins cooling. Strain before adding to the lemonade. Lavender, mint or thyme would all be lovely with berries.
Ingredients
- 7 cups water, divided
- 1-3/4 cups sugar
- 1-1/2 cups lemon juice
- 3 cups fresh or frozen berries (remove the tops from strawberries)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, prepare simple syrup by bringing 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the sugar, reduce to a simmer, stirring often, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
- In a blender, puree the berries with 2 cups of water until smooth.
- In a large serving pitcher, combine the berry blend, lemon juice, remaining water and syrup to taste; stir well. Chill before serving.
Enjoy!
