Have you said “I Do” to these insurance needs?
Marriage brings about another set of insurance needs most newlyweds don’t always consider. There are many present and future considerations that come with marriage, including purchasing or renting a home, planning a family and protecting what is important to you. Ponder these questions…
1. Do you have adequate liability coverage?
If you are buying or renting a home, look into homeowner’s or renter’s insurance. You might also want to look into liability insurance as it provides coverage for damages if there is an accident at your wedding that causes injury or property damage for which you are found legally responsible.
2. Do you plan on combining auto policies?
Now is a perfect time to review coverage and consider combining policies. Bonus? You might be eligible for cheaper rates!
3. Buying or Renting: Do you have an adequate personal property limit?
If you have an existing policy, it’s important to make sure the personal property limit is enough for both you and your spouse. Values can add up quickly when combining assets, and it’s easy to make the mistake of being underinsured.
4. Do you have insurance on your engagement or wedding rings?
Losing your rings could mean losing your entire investment. Check to see if they may need to be specifically listed on your policy for coverage.
5. Do you have an appropriate amount of life insurance for your combined financial situation?
It’s critical that you protect your combined assets as well as provide funds to cover any remaining debt in case something happens to one of you. The remaining spouse could lose everything if not properly protected.
6. Do you both have health insurance?
Spousal coverage is not automatic. Are both of you included in a plan? Meet with your insurance agent to help navigate confusing area of health coverage.
