What happens when a book is over-loved and begins to fall apart? If it’s too far gone to pass on to someone and yet too hard to throw away, you can give it new life! For all the book lovers out there, here’s the perfect repurposed Valentine’s Day craft.
Making a 3D Book Page Heart
Materials Needed:
- 5-10 old book pages (a thicker page works best but any can be used)
- a heart-shaped tracing piece (use an old folder or yardstick mailer since we are repurposing)
- pencil
- colored markers
- rubber cement glue
- varied background papers, cards, mini frames or other objects
- scissors
- stapler
Directions:
- Make a stack of book pages.
- Draw as many hearts that fit on the top page.
- Cut out the hearts (because you stacked the pages you now will have 5 or more hearts for each cut).
- Stack the cut hearts to your desire (6-8 works nicely for a small heart).
- Fold stack in half, then open and staple together on the crease.
- Glue the top heart sides together to cover the staple.
- Color the edges with desired marker color.
- Glue the back heart to whatever surface you are using.
About Denise: As a retired librarian, I created The Repurposed Page. I wanted to turn over-loved books into something else that could be loved again. Most of my work is drawing directly on the book page, but I discovered I had so many smaller pieces left over. I began making 3D shapes for all the various holidays as a way to use every piece of the book pages. It’s a fun, fast and easy craft to do with your friends and family. My art can be found on The Repurposed Page on Facebook and Instagram and also on therepurposedpage.com. I also have my art at The Mint Leaf in Leesport. Email therepurposedpage@gmail.com if you are interested in any piece on my page or custom orders.
