As the slogan says, you’ll want to bring your buns to Hamburg on Saturday, Aug. 31, when the town plays host to the 10th anniversary of the Taste of Hamburg-er Festival in the borough’s downtown.
At the heart of the event is the good ol’ American classic: the hamburger. More than 25 vendors will cook up their specialized versions for fans of the traditional ketchup and mustard variety, as well as those with unusual ingredients like special sauces, not-so-common cheeses and other toppings, not to mention unique items holding those yummy insides together. Think buns a la donuts and pretzels.
Food aside, there are plenty of other activities fit for entertaining the expected 35,000+ crowd. Three non-stop entertainment stages will feature country and bluegrass music, rock and blues, and acoustic tunes. Characters and performers will also stroll the festival grounds and entertain the masses.
For those who are a bit competitive, there’s something for you, too. A few things, actually. Organized by Blue Mountain Wildlife is the Dine and Dash Race. This foot race will challenge contestants to eat a burger, run a mile, eat a burger, and run another mile to reach the finish line. For more information call 610.914.6166.
Children are encouraged to belt out their best “moooo…” in the Moo’ing Contest. Youngsters will also enjoy decorating their own wooden cow, visiting animals at the petting zoo, jumping in the moon bounce and trying their luck at a selection of carnival-style games.
Before you leave, don’t forget to do plenty of sampling. Restaurants and organizations will be competing for the best burger overall as well as in four categories, including: originality, taste, appearance and value. A special People’s Choice Award based on the ballots turned in by festival attendees will also be awarded. So let your taste buds do the talking.
The event is free and is held from 10am to 6pm. For more info call 610.562.3106 or visit tasteofhamburger.com.
