We’ve been talking a lot about fun Fall activities here at Berks County Living lately. So, last weekend, on the advice of my ever-so-wise friend and Associate Publisher Robyn Jones, I threw long-sleeve t-shirts on my son and I, layered on a Fleece pullover and headed to what I’ve discovered is THE place in Berks for Fall fun: Weaver’s Orchard.
What’s not to love? When we arrived, it was hard to decide what to do first. It was a Saturday after all, the day Weaver’s hosts its popular Family Fun Days between 10am and 5pm through Oct. 27. (Psst…that means if you haven’t been there yet this year, get there THIS Saturday!)
Being that my son’s favorite fruit is apples, we decided apple picking was first on the agenda. So we walked up the path to the apple-tasting station, sampled those ripe for the picking and purchased our 10-pound bag to fill to the brim with all the apples our hearts desired. They ended up being Oh-So Red Delicious, So-Good Staymans and Beautiful Blushing Golds. We had a blast!
After storing the apples away in the car, we purchased our hayride tickets, climbed aboard, and made our way to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch. What fun! My son wanted to pick the biggest pumpkin possible, but I talked some sense into him and we settled on a cute, round and plump one perfect for carving and for carrying.
Upon our return and another trip to stow our pumpkins away in the car, Riley and I took a trip through the Farmer’s Market and enjoyed a wonderful sampling of goodies: pumpkin pie, spinach & potato pie, and best of all…hot cider donuts. They are truly out of this world!
Before leaving, we picked out some gourds to decorate our home and took a stroll through the mums, all the while listening to the great live band pumping out some fun music for all to enjoy. I have to say, though we were there for four hours, I feel like we easily could have spent a lot more time at Weaver’s that day; it was a blast!
