Children’s Alopecia Project

Jeff Woytovich and his wife, Betsy, founded the Children’s Alopecia Project in a spare bedroom of their Wyomissing home in 2004. Today, CAP has 50 CAP Kid Groups in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, South Africa and New Zealand. Jeff runs CAP Kid Camps in California, North Carolina, Ohio and, starting in 2018, in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Colorado. The largest camp, Alopeciapalooza, is attended by up to 500 people from around the world annually in a different state. The 2018 Alopeciapalooza will be held Aug. 13 to 16 in Texas. Over the past three years, Jeff has visited 210 schools to speak to thousands of students in North America, England and France.

Alopecia is an incurable autoimmune hair loss disease that does not hurt, is not contagious, or life-threatening. The body attacks the hair follicles, paralyzing them, causing hair loss. It could mean a small, dime-sized bald spot or total body hair loss. There is no effective treatment for Alopecia, so self-esteem, support and awareness are the three things CAP builds in its CAP Kids, children with alopecia.

CAP is happy to announce that Roger Zyma was recently selected as Chairman of the Board, succeeding Christine Ceiplinski, who still remains as a board member. “In the brief year since joining CAP, I see firsthand what is truly a special organization. CAP has grown from a local idea to a national and international education and support network that has positively impacted literally thousands of children, their families and community,” says Roger. In addition to Roger and Christine, Jason Hoffman is Vice Chair; Beth Breslow, Treasurer; Ashlee Crump (Secretary with Steve Schwartz); Magda Vincente, Medical Director’ Jeffrey Miller, MD, and Legal Director Kevin Kinnan round out the board.

CAP has grown into the largest nonprofit in the world specifically devoted to children living with all forms of Alopecia and is based in Wyomissing. Jeff can be reached at 610.468.1011 and Jeff.Woytovich@ChildrensAlopeciaProject.org
