Your job can be challenging in and of itself. So isn’t it nice when you work with a group of considerate, like-minded individuals? Here are some tips on how to make your and your co-workers’ life a bit easier during the work day as relayed by businessinsider.com:
DO:
- Know when to cut off chatter. A good rule of thumb is not to walk and talk. Keep it brief and while you’re seated in your workspace.
- Just a dab of perfume. It’s nice to smell nice, but not like you’re wearing the whole bottle. Many people are also allergic to perfumes.
- Put your phone on vibrate. If you’re afraid that you’ll miss an important call, keep the ring tone volume low.
- Err on the conservative side when dressing for work. Think about who you’ll be interacting with during the day.
- Be on time. Punctuality says a lot about your work ethic and your level of respect for others and your position.
DON’T:
- Interrupt others. Wait for your turn in the conversation and make sure you’re being a good listener.
- Be loud. Noise can be intrusive and an invisible that invades another person’s workspace.
- Eat pungent foods. A bag of buttery popcorn or tuna can be attractive or distractive to a co-worker, and either is a disruption.
- Go to work sick. It can be a vicious cycle. You come in sick, your co-worker gets sick, and you’ve got lots of people unable to work at peak-performance.
- Get too personal. If you have co-workers that are good friends, talk about personal topics after work or away from the office on your lunch break.
