While traditional events in large part are being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing, there are still some great places to find fun right here in Berks.
1. Make it a Movie Night.
Drive-ins are making a comeback. The Boyertown State Theatre has partnered with Sunnybook Ballroom in Pottstown for Sunnybrook Social Distancing Drive-In Movies. The cost is $20 per vehicle, and food and beverage purchases are available for car delivery. Concessions open at 7pm, and the movies start at dusk. For more info visit boyertownstatetheatre.com.
2. Explore Nature.
Berks Nature can help with its Berks Nature Rx Box. Visit berksnaturerx.com to gather resources needed to spend at least 120 minutes outdoors every week. There you’ll find a wealth of resources, including links for lots of local trails. Once you’ve got the needed tools, you can log your minutes with Berks Nature. When you reach 500, visit The Nature Place for a free gift and learn about incentives to continue participating in the program.
3. Head to a Virtual Festival.
Though the Kutztown Festival looks a bit different this year, you can still join in the fun with their virtual event online from June 27 through July 5 at kutztownfestival.com and on social media. Visit with the colorful craftsmen, entertainers and long-time participants. The Quilt Raffle will still be a go, and limited-edition apparel will be for sale. Mark your calendars for the 2021 installment of the festival, planned for June 26 through July 4.
4. Enjoy Fresh Produce & More.
It may be pre-order/pre-pay only, but the West Reading Farmers Market is still happening! Sundays from 9am to 1pm on Penn Avenue you can pick-up pre-ordered favorites of sustainably raised meats, artisan baked goods, fruits, vegetables and more. Contact growingrootspartners.com for more info and to schedule an order.
5. Plant a Garden.
Be it with vegetables, shrubs or even pots of perfectly pretty flowers, Berks County is blessed with no shortage of gorgeous garden centers filled with the perfect plants to suit your needs. Make a day of shopping at your favorite, or check out a new location, then soak up the sun beautifying your surroundings.
6. Carry out a Summery Cocktail.
Now that it’s legal for Pennsylvania establishments to sell carry-out cocktails, take advantage of being able to let someone else whip up your favorite margarita, pina colada or another sunshine-friendly beverage. Bonus: you’re helping small businesses that need you!
7. Vote for your Best of Berks!
