Walk the halls of the post-industrial, historical building that once manufactured optical lenses and that now hosts one of the region’s largest interactive arts centers, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Arts Festival Reading is a two-day premiere arts fair bringing beautifully handcrafted pieces by juried artists to the GoggleWorks. This year’s event features holiday shopping opportunities, too, as well as plenty of fun things for the entire family to enjoy and explore.
Shop
Looking for a special last-minute gift for a friend or loved one? Or simply in search of a unique piece to add to your home’s décor? Close to 40 studio artists will be present and selling their work. Some of these artists will also demonstrate how they create their pieces. The addition, a Holiday Market, will feature goods from community non-profit vendors as well as small businesses. High-end pieces and even more affordable items under $25 will be showcased and available for purchase. All artwork is high quality and uniquely designed, no matter the cost. Asserts Executive Director Levi Landis, “One thing we stand behind is the quality of the artists we have juried in.”
Meet
Visit the in-house artists’ studios for an up-close look at their craftsmanship. There are many different types of artwork to see — from painting and photography to paper sculpture, weaving and so much more. Artists welcome visitors to step inside their creative worlds to explore, talk and ask questions. Watch them at work and see their talents come to life.
Create
Kids’ programs and family events help visitors to experience what life is like as an artist. See live demos both indoors and outdoors. Inside, catch a glimpse of a ceramics demo. Watch the potter’s wheel spin clay into a unique piece of pottery, which is then hardened by heat and glazed to a shine. Outdoor heaters keep you warm as you visit more artists and live demos.
Ever dream of making your own glass ornament? Make it happen! Create your own unique ornament with the help of professionals in the glass blowing workshop. Take your special piece home for your tree or gift your one-of-a-kind item.
Enjoy
Live music and delicious food and drink throughout the building will enhance your experience and set the holiday mood. Keep an eye out for the “Bar Cart,” which brings craft beverages around to wet your palate and to raise money for GoggleWorks' charitable programs. Be sure to enter to win one of many raffle items available, such as works from the artists or goods and services from the area.
Gather friends and family and mark your calendars for December 14 & 15, 10am-5pm, for an unforgettable time this holiday season.
