West Reading’s Art on the Avenue celebrates its 18th consecutive year with tons of art-related fun. The event will begin at 11am and conclude at 6pm on June 16, along the sidewalks of Penn Avenue. Art on the Avenue is a juried fine arts and crafts festival that features the work of nationwide and local artists.
The event, held rain or shine, will feature live music, shopping, food and more. Organizers are excited to report that Art on the Avenue continues to grow each year, seeing more than 70 artists applying to exhibit this year.
Some of the fun will include exhibits from the Berks Quilters Guild, ACOR and more. The Humane Society of Berks County will also have an exhibit offering information on pet adoption, upcoming events and merchandise. Some of the food vendors include West Reading Tavern offering a raw bar.
The international event Walk a Mile in her Shoes, a men’s march against rape, sexual assault and gender violence, will also take place as part of the festivities. The walk, sponsored by Berks Women in Crisis, is a way for men to raise awareness against these issues that impact the people who live in the community. Walkers will meet at 9am and staff at Berks Women in Crisis will be on hand to help raise awareness and talk about prevention.
Another aspect of this year’s event is the kinetic sculptures that will be exhibited. Michelle Wasik’s Art of Silence characters will add color to the Avenue. Keep eyes in the back of your head as the blue and red sculptures entertain you.
The day is packed with tons of vendors, entertainment, and excitement for everyone. This event continues to grow because of the people who come and support the arts.
