“Most people yearn for an old-fashioned Christmas, where they feel they’re a part of the larger human family! West Reading has created, over many years, a family of personally owned businesses that all come together beautifully to create an old-fashioned downtown,” says Justin Bortz of Justin Bortz Jewelers, located on Penn Avenue.
From Black Friday through the end of December, residents can enjoy the “It’s a Wonderful Life on the Avenue” theme this year. West Reading is known for its Holiday Glow, running the entire month of December, boasting special promotions and events at all stores and other venues in the surrounding area.
“In addition to all of our events, we will have outdoor vendors and carolers. Most retail stores will be open seven days, 11am to 4pm on Sundays, and extended hours on themed nights,” according to Bortz.
On Nov. 30 at 6pm, the community can join together for the annual tree lighting at the roundabout circle behind Chef Alan’s American Bistro. A schedule of events will be handed out that evening. “With all the special trimming from Genesius Theatre and the Old World treats offered by the stores, I feel this will be a magical night, full of the Christmas spirit!” exclaims Bortz. People will feel like they are in an old-fashioned Christmas tale with strolling characters from A Christmas Carol and a brass quartet playing at the tree lighting and along the avenue.
