Much to my chagrin, I have a ton of gray hair. I started to get gray hair in college, which was upsetting. I even have more gray hair than my older sister who is 4 years and 4 months older than me. That definitely doesn’t seem fair.
So I have to get my hair colored every time I get it cut, which is like once a month. It used to be a longer time period, but when it starts to grow in I end up with a nice gray stripe going down the part in my hair, which isn’t a good look. It used to be six weeks, then five weeks and now four weeks seems to be getting tough. To the rescue – ‘Tween Time!
Let me explain…
The other day I was at Hair on the Avenue in Sinking Spring getting a manicure when I learned of this new product to address my gray problem. Or new to me, I should say. ‘Tween Time by Roux is an instant hair color touch-up stick and it actually works! Here is what the packaging says: Instantly touches up roots between regular hair color applications and blends away gray. Tween Time applies like a lipstick and washes away with shampoo. Directions: Choose the shade closest to present hair color. Moisten tip of stick and apply directly to roots or gray areas. Color stays until shampooed away. Keep out of reach of children.
We tested it out at the salon to see what it would be like and I was instantly intrigued. With just a few touch ups, lots of gray disappeared. So I purchased the product, $15.95, and the following day went to town trying it. You want to moisten the stick when you apply so I thought, ‘I wonder what would happen if I tried to color it in when my hair was wet?’ and I think that worked well and sped up the process. You really feel like you are coloring in your hair with a jumbo crayon. Whenever I would color outside the lines shall we say and you could see hair color on my skin, you could just wipe it away. Tip: don’t use a nice towel to do so, as color will get on your towel. Oops! The results in my opinion were shocking (in a good way) and the color literally lasted until I shampooed.
Which, of course, was then a little upsetting when the gray reared its ugly head all over again.
It isn’t a product that will eliminate getting my hair colored of course, but will certainly make that last week before getting my hair done a little less embarrassing.
