For adults – especially parents – relaxation time is paramount. I admit I frequently find myself daydreaming of a relaxing massage in times of parental – or non-parental – stress. Or at least 20 minutes of peace and quiet.
The desire for a massage and quiet time, it’s a common bond that unites many of us, including my sister, Kelley and I. So I decided I’d gift her one for her birthday recently while on a trip to New York City. Even better, I got to throw in a bucket list item I wanted to try for both of us: some rest in a swanky NYC napping pod in Midtown’s YeloSpa.
What is a napping pod you ask? It’s a cool table/chair type piece of furniture you lay in at a zero-gravity position in your own little room (YeloSpa calls them “treatment cabins”), accompanied by darkness, calming music you choose relax to, and aromatherapy. It’s most often sought out by NYC business types popping in over lunch hour for a “power nap” and can last anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. The cost? $1 per minute.
And it’s fabulous. Honestly. You enter YeloSpa near the hustle and bustle of Madison Avenue by Yves Saint Laurent into a small lobby; sign in; take the elevator to the 12th floor and exit right into the spa, which envelopes you in warm, comforting pink and orange tones. It’s really like being in a whole other world. At the end of your nap, you’re woken with an artificial sunrise. You leave ready to take on the busy streets of Manhattan.
For me, relaxing is usually hard to come by, so the experience was a real treat. I kind of wish I had one of those pods in my own home. How great would that be?! For more, visit YeloSpa online at yelospa.com/newyork.
