Hello! And welcome to my Bucket List blog for 2015. I know it isn’t quite the New Year yet, but I wanted to give you all a head’s up as to what I’ll be up to this year.
The inspiration for this blog comes from several places. First and foremost, I think it comes from being a mom. I’m constantly intrigued by the way my 9-year-old son Riley looks at the world with such awe and positivity. “I want to be a shark scientist!” “I’d love to meet Adam Levine!” Zombies? “They’re fun! The creepier the better! Why be scared?” Kids really have a different outlook on life, don’t they?
As we age, unfortunately, we tend to become desensitized by the world around us and we don’t appreciate what we once found cool or dismiss that we’ll ever be able to take part in something that seems bigger than us.
As I approach age 39, I’m going to take Riley’s lead and embrace the coolness in things and try to make things happen. Call it my 2015 New Year’s resolution come early if you will. I’m calling it my Bucket List blog.
As my oft-source of inspiration, Riley will be at my side for many of my adventures.
I’m going to make big requests, and I hope I’ll be greeted by a big, fat “YES!” more than a dreaded “No.” First up: We’re headed to the Walker Stalker Con in Secaucus, New Jersey Dec. 13 and 14 (#WSCNYNJ). Why? Well, like I said, Riley loves zombies. He doesn’t watch The Walking Dead, but I do, and he’s fascinated. We discuss it in small doses. I shouldn’t be surprised really, Halloween IS his favorite holiday.
Another reason we’re headed to The Walking Dead fan-centered gathering? (Other than mom being a big fan of the show.) Riley is endlessly fascinated with fame. What is being famous? What does it mean? How does it change someone? Does it? Is a famous person just like you or me, really? Well, here he’ll have a chance to find out. On our agenda? A meeting with Norman Reedus, the show’s famous Daryl Dixon (and yep – mom and son’s favorite). Will it be all we hope it will be? Early indications show Reedus to be a big fan of fans themselves, so we’re hopeful. Or will it be a letdown? Time will tell. And I’ll be reporting back.
Stay tuned!
