Lori Borja has dedicated her career to the health and wellness of others. Her passion for individualized care and nutrition inspired Nutrition for Life, where she provides clinical nutrition services to help her clients achieve holistic wellness through diet and lifestyle education.
Q: What prompted you to start Nutrition for Life? My background is as a registered nurse, and I really enjoyed the one-on-one experience I had in the home health field, where I was able to educate my patients in a more intimate way. My interest in nutrition had grown over the years, both personally and professionally, as I became more aware of the need to help educate individuals on how to reduce disease processes and improve overall wellness through diet. So, I got my master’s degree in Applied Clinical Nutrition and then also became a Certified Nutrition Specialist and a Pennsylvania Licensed Nutritionist.
Q: What services do you offer? I work with clients to develop personalized nutrition plans that incorporate whole foods, quality supplements and mindful eating strategies. I also offer cooking demos designed to encourage the preparation of healthy meals at home. My goal is to show people that they can eat healthy and still enjoy the food that they are eating.
Q: Does your family enjoy the benefits of those cooking classes? They do! Actually, they’re my taste-testers. I’ll prepare a meal for a cooking demo and if they like it, I know I can share it with my clients. All three of my kids are athletes, so it has been especially important to support them nutritionally. Now, whether they listen to me when they’re out of the house, that’s up to them!
Q: What can new clients expect when getting started? I start with an extensive and comprehensive assessment to gather information regarding their history, environment and lifestyle to help me guide them toward long-term health, and to develop a plan to protect them from chronic diseases and support overall health and wellness. I spend a lot of time with my clients providing one-on-one education and schedule regular follow-ups to provide continued support.
Q: What are the benefits of following a Nutrition for Life plan? It can help to support any disease processes and reduce inflammation, pain, headaches, digestive issues, and even hormonal and thyroid issues. We can address high blood pressure, high cholesterol – I provide plans to help support any health concerns and to reduce the long-term effects of those issues.
Q: What is your advice to people who aren’t sure if they should see a nutritionist? Making nutritional changes definitely isn’t easy; it’s a commitment, but it’s worth it. I offer a free informational meeting to address any concerns and to see if care with me is a good fit.
Q: Other than experimenting in the kitchen, what are some things you do in your free time? We stay very busy with the business, so if we do get out, we go out to eat or see movies, but usually we’re outside. When I do find free time, I’m usually out running. I often try to get my kids to join me; it has become a big part of my life.
