United Way is committed to improving lives and strengthening our community. By inspiring collaboration, volunteerism and support in our community, the organization is able to help children succeed in school, to help families work towards financial stability, to promote healthy lifestyles, and to assist those most in need. It reaches these goals by funding a broad range of programs including youth development, after-school programming, services for older adults, health education, disaster response, and so much more.
Locally, the organization invests in more than 50 funded programs, initiatives and grants to help more than 100,000 Berks Countians annually. Through its network of more than 30 agency and community partners it is able to support a broad range of initiatives, including Ready.Set.READ!, which focuses on early grade reading proficiency, and 2-1-1, a bilingual community information and referral service people can access by calling the 3-digit number available 24/7.
The LIVE UNITED spirit connects all of us, and throughout the organization’s tenure in Berks County the community has been incredibly supportive. All sectors of our community – businesses, educational institutions, nonprofits, donors and volunteers – collaborate with United Way every day to improve the lives of those in need and to provide an opportunity for everyone to make a difference.
