You might have driven by ATA Martial Arts in Wyomissing before, but did you know that it was purchased in 2013 by two women who used to train there? Lauren Minnich and Shannon Strouse have a combined 40+ years of experience in Martial Arts and are passionate about passing on their knowledge. Both started training as children, instructing as teenagers, and finally operating their own school after graduating from Muhlenberg College and Kutztown University, respectively.
Minnich is a sixth-degree (dan) black belt and will be dubbed a Master Instructor with the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) in the fall. Strouse (a fifth-degree black belt and the head instructor of the studio) plans to test for her new rank and complete the process of mastership in the next few years. Both are decorated state and district champions and compete on an international level. Additionally, they are both level three international judges and are certified to teach and judge numerous weapons.
Their central focus is empowering people through martial arts and leadership training, and they enjoy serving the community through fundraisers and supply drives. Many of their students also compete and are State, District, and even World champions. One of the most prestigious programs is their four-year internship program in which students are trained to become full-time instructors and to own and operate their own martial arts schools.
