Recycling doesn’t have to stop with aluminum cans and plastic milk jugs. With the invention of Pinterest (check out BCL’s boards at by following BCL Magazine), re-use is all the rage. To that end, here are some ideas we love detailing how you can give items in your home a new life…
Ice, Ice, Baby. Have ice cube trays you never use because you buy bags of ice or have a refrigerator that cranks it out for you? Use the small slots of the try to hold small pieces of jewelry and story it away in a small dresser drawer!
Maximize your Magazines. Done with an old issue of BCL and all your friends have read and returned it? Roll it up and use it to prop up the base of a pair of fabulous knee-high boots. It will help them keep the perfect shape!
Rack it Up. Have an unused towel rack because yours are tucked away in a closet? Use it to hang your scarves instead!
Out of Sight in the Office. Have a home office that’s cluttered with small items like pins, paperclips, elastic bands and more? Don’t have a place to tuck them away all neat and tidy? Save tuna cans! Just wash, peel the label, and stash your items in the aluminum goodies before tucking into a desk drawer!
Ease Clutter with Tension. A tension rod, that is. The $2 piece is great in the space under your kitchen sink. Just position it and hang all those spray bottles up a level and you’ll have twice the amount of space you did previously.
Bench it. Need shelving but don’t want to invest in and hang the pieces? Well, if you have some extra benches around, they might just do the trick! Paint them and then stack three and you have a great floor-standing shelving unit!
No More Baby Bed. Have a crib your not-so-little one’s outgrown and lots of magazines with no home? Take the rails, flip them vertically and drape your magazines over the rungs. Presto! Instantly-chick magazine rack!
Lay it on a Ladder. Don’t discount the value of what you might see as a rickety, old ladder. Propped against a wall, a rustic piece’s rungs are perfect for hanging beautiful blankets on display.
